UN APPROCCIO FORMALE ALLA DESCRIZIONE DELLA SEMANTICA DEI LINGUAGGI DI PROGRAMMAZIONE

    Get PDF
The creation of new programming languages, capable of fully deploying the new technological innovations and operating environments, requires more and more accurate and affordable analysis. In this study, a technique for the generation of formal models for the specification of the semantics of the programming languages is presented. Tools are used newer than the semantics of Kleene - such as the Scotts theory of the cathegories and mathematical theory of the computation, which are here outlined and motivated.

Artificial Neural Networks in Finance Modelling

The study of Artificial Neural Networks derives from first trials to translate in mathematical models the principles of biological ā€œprocessingā€. An Artificial Neural Network deals with generating, in the fastest times, an implicit and predictive model of the evolution of a system. In particular, it derives from experience its ability to be able to recognize some behaviours or situations and to ā€œsuggestā€ how to take them into account. This work illustrates an approach to the use of Artificial Neural Networks for Financial Modelling; we aim to explore the structural differences (and implications) between one- and multi- agent and population models. In one-population models, ANNs are involved as forecasting devices with wealth-maximizing agents (in which agents make decisions so as to achieve an utility maximization following non- linear models to do forecasting), while in multi-population models agents do not follow predetermined rules, but tend to create their own behavioural rules as market data are collected. In particular, it is important to analyze diversities between one-agent and one-population models; in fact, in building one-population model it is possible to illustrate the market equilibrium endogenously, which is not possible in one-agent model where all the environmental characteristics are taken as given and beyond the control of the single agent. A particular application we aim to study is the one regarding ā€œcustomer profilingā€, in which (based on personal and direct relationships) the ā€œbuyingā€ behaviour of each customer can be defined, making use of behavioural inference models such as the ones offered by Artificial Neural Networks much better than traditional statistical methodologies.Artificial Neural Network, Financial Modelling, Customer Profiling

The design and development of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless (and hence mobile) communication networks have become an integral part of our society, significantly enhancing communication capabilities; mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) extend this capability to any time/anywhere, providing connectivity without the need of an underlying infrastructure. This work aims to investigate the newcoming area of mobile ad hoc networks, focusing on research problems related to the design and development of routing protocols, both from a formal and technical point of view.

A Graph-Traversing Algorithm for Computing Some Stable Sets in Effectiveness Coalitional Games

    Get PDF
We propose an algorithm for computing "main stable sets" recently introduced by Ciardiello, Di Liddo (2009) on effectiveness form coalitional games modeled through a directed pseudograph. The algorithm is based upon a graph traversing method exploring extended paths minimal in coalitions and we study some its interesting computational aspects for making these stability concepts as useful tools for decision theory.Algorithmic game theory; coalitional games; dominance relations; stable sets; graph theory.

An e-learning platform for delivering educational contents in a school environment

Learning is a continuous process, without end, which takes place throughout life, and is the result of the interaction of an individual with a physical external environment, a social context or with herself. In what new technologies may help improving and making more effective the interaction of an individual during his learning process? This paper describes the use of a platform for delivering educational contents to students, to put theories into practice through the use of an LMS and highlight the strengths and weaknesses that have these learning tools in a school environment, in which - besides its formative aspect - upbringing is important.learning management system, digital contents.

Data Bit-Rate Instability in Wireless Multi-Rate Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless Ad-hoc single-rate environments typically use a Distance Vector routing with a metric based on the minimization of the hop-count. In practice, the technique of minimizing the distance does not reward in the case of multi-rate, therefore it may be prefereable touse protocols privileging the link's transmission speed instead of the minimum distance. Our study aims toward the stability of the link in a wireless high mobility environment; we explore and hypothesize how to privilege, in the choice of routes, the stablest link.Ad Hoc Networks; Routing; Stability.

UN ALGORITMO DI SIMULATED ANNEALING PER LA SOLUZIONE DI UN PROBLEMA DI SCHEDULING

    Get PDF
An algorithm of "Simulated Annealing" for solving scheduling problems is presented. The issues related to scheduling are discussed, together with the Simulated Annealing approximation method and its main parameters (freezing, temperature, cooling, number of neighbourhoods to explore), the choices made in defining them for the generation of a good algorithm that efficiently resolves the scheduling problem.scheduling, simulated annealing.

Price-caps and Efficient Pricing for the Electricity Italian Market

Deregulation of the electricity generating industry, under way in the United States as well as in Europe, would yield economies to operate in a more competitive environment causing improvement of eļ¬ƒciency and the possibility to develop related ļ¬nancial markets to manage price uncertainty. Electricity spot prices tend to be remarkably volatile as consequence of extreme weather conditions, therefore there seems to be suļ¬ƒcient price uncertainty to warrant the development of derivative markets, however it is important to verify whether the underlying spot market is suļ¬ƒciently competitive and well functioning to stimulate the development of related ļ¬nancial markets. Analyzing the features and price volatility of European markets which undertook the same process, as well as Norwey, Germany and Spain, we formulate a simple model to control the well functioning of energy spot markets in a deregulated context. The model is tested using Norwegian, Deutsch and Spanish spot prices over the last two years in order to assess the correct price formation in competitive operating markets.Electricity market, Price limits, Market Power

A Game Theoretic Approach to Computer Science: Survey and Research Directions

    Get PDF
Theoretical Computer Science classically aimed to develop a mathematical understanding of capabilities and limits of traditional computing architecture (Boole, von Neuman, Turing, Church, Godel), investigating in computability, complexity theory and algorithmics. Now it seems more natural to revisit classical computer science notions under a new game- theoretic model. The purpose of this work is to investigate some themes at the intersection of algorithmics and game theory, emphasizing both mathematical and technological issues.computer science, game theory, network, protocol
